A conservatory clean makes a very visible difference, and conservatories are common on Birmingham houses. They were added to the back of houses across the city through the 1990s and 2000s, and most of them are now twenty to thirty years old with roofs that have been quietly going green for a decade.
They go green fastest where the housing and the tree cover coincide, as in Hall Green, Harborne, Moseley, Selly Park, Solihull and Sutton Coldfield. A conservatory under a mature tree canopy in Hall Green will be visibly green within a couple of years. Appearance is only part of it: a cleared roof puts the light back, and a room that had effectively been written off becomes usable again.
We clean conservatory roofs from the ground with a soft brush on a water-fed pole, so nobody climbs on the roof or leans a ladder against it. Glass and polycarbonate are washed at low pressure, the frames and seals are cleaned by hand, and the small conservatory gutter is cleared on the same visit.
Algae is the main problem on Birmingham conservatories, worst on a shaded or north-facing roof under trees. Polycarbonate that has yellowed with age comes back cleaner but not clear, and we tell you which you have before we start.
Three of the areas nearest to us, each with its own page for conservatory cleaning and the housing there.
Conservatories are uncommon on the student terraces, so this work sits mostly on the family houses towards Selly Park, where the roof is soft-washed and the gutter cleared.
Roofs under overhanging branches go green and sap-stained. Soft-washed on glass, frames and seals.
A few lean-tos on the canal side of the terraces, where damp air turns the roof green quickly, soft-washed with frames and seals.
If your property is somewhere else in Birmingham or the West Midlands, we almost certainly cover it. See all the areas we serve.
Priced by the size of the conservatory, the roof material, and how long it has been since it was last done. A regularly maintained lean-to is straightforward. A large Victorian-style conservatory in Solihull that has been green for eight years takes far longer and may need two applications of the cleaning solution.
One limitation worth knowing before you spend money: polycarbonate that has yellowed with age will stay yellow. Yellowing is UV degradation of the material itself, not dirt sitting on it, and no amount of cleaning reverses it. The green algae comes off completely, the yellow does not. We will tell you which one you are looking at when we quote, because the difference matters.
Once a year for most conservatories. Twice a year if it sits under a tree canopy, which describes most of Hall Green, Moseley and Selly Park, where sap and leaf tannin build on top of the algae. Spring is the natural time, so the room is clear and light for the summer.

Absolutely brilliant service. Adefem was professional, job well done. Everything was left beautifully clean, and I was genuinely impressed.
First time customer. Excellent service and great job. Will definitely be using them again in the future.
Good to know
Not the way we do it. We soft-wash at low pressure precisely because high-pressure washing forces water past ageing seals and causes the leaks people are worried about. If a seal has already perished we will tell you, but cleaning will not be what broke it.
No, and it is better you know that before you pay us. Yellowing is UV degradation of the polycarbonate itself, not dirt on the surface, and cleaning cannot reverse it. The green algae will come off completely, the yellow will not. Replacing the panels is the only fix for that.
Yes, included as standard. Conservatory guttering blocks more readily than the main house guttering because it sits lower and is usually right under the trees.
Yes, on request. Interior roof cleaning is quoted separately, because it is done from inside the room with a soft brush on an extension pole, working around your furniture, but it makes a real difference on a conservatory that has never had it done.
Once a year for most. Twice a year if it is under a tree canopy (which covers most of Hall Green, Moseley and Selly Park) where sap and leaf tannin land on top of the algae and set.
Yes. Orangeries usually have a flat roof section with a lantern and integrated guttering. We clean the glazing, the frames and the seals, and clear that guttering, which is very easily forgotten.
Glass almost always can, and the algae comes off polycarbonate too. The exception is polycarbonate that has also yellowed with age, which comes back clean but not clear. Either way the light comes back into the room, and a conservatory that had stopped being used becomes a room worth sitting in again.
Each of these areas has its own conservatory cleaning page, covering the housing there, how we get to it and the questions people in that area ask.
