Rubery Deep Cleaning for 1960s and 70s Semis
The housing stock is what shapes a deep clean in Rubery. Much of it went up privately in the 1960s and 1970s: boxy rooms, a compact kitchen in a single run, an integral or side garage, and in a great many cases a conservatory bolted onto the back at some point after that. Each of those changes what a deep clean has to cover.
The tap water arriving in B45 comes soft off the Elan Valley aqueduct, so no bathroom here is furred up with scale and nothing needs a descaler. The build-up we actually break down is soap scum on the bath and the shower screen, grease that has crept from the cooker across the wall units and onto the ceiling, and black mould worked deep into grout and sealant. On this exposed western ground the windward bedroom wall runs cold, so condensation mould in the bedroom corners behind wardrobes is common as well.

Sealed-up 1960s houses and the mould that follows
Houses of this vintage were sealed up long before anyone worried about ventilation. Bathrooms were fitted with a token extractor or none at all, and where a wall vent survives it has usually been blocked to stop the draught, which on a hilltop site is a draught worth blocking. That leaves moisture nowhere to go, and grout, sealant and window reveals take the consequences. Kitchens are the other half of it: a compact galley run with the cooker mid-terrace of the units throws grease sideways as well as upwards, and it settles on textured ceilings that nobody wants to touch with a wet cloth. Add a conservatory used as a back hall and a garage door opening straight into the utility, and grit arrives from both ends of the house.
- Bathrooms with weak or blocked ventilation, where the sealant and grout hold mould rather than scale
- Compact single-run kitchens that spread cooking grease onto wall units and textured ceilings
- Cold windward walls on this exposed ground below the Lickeys, giving condensation mould in bedroom corners
- Conservatories used as a back hall, bringing garden grit into the dining room all year
- Long-tenure households where cupboards, the airing cupboard and the garage door lobby have gone decades without a proper turn out
Textured ceilings vacuumed, then the kitchen and bathroom
We start high and stay dry until the dust is on the floor, which matters here because so many ceilings are textured and shed if you wipe them. Those get vacuumed with a soft head instead. The kitchen is degreased from the wall units and ceiling downward, then the oven, the hob, and the extractor hood with its filter. Grout and sealant are treated with a mould product and left to work, not scrubbed, and we will point out when a bedroom corner is condensation that will keep returning, which no clean removes for good. Where the conservatory forms part of the living space we clean it as a room, glazing bars, sills and floor included.
- Textured and Artex ceilings vacuumed with a soft head, never wiped with a wet cloth
- Kitchen grease taken from wall unit tops and ceiling downward before the oven and extractor are touched
- Mould treatment given proper dwell time in grout and sealant, with a straight answer about what is condensation
- The conservatory and the garage lobby cleaned as rooms, since they are where grit enters the house
More detail on the equipment and the order of work: deep cleaning across Birmingham.
When a Rubery house needs a full reset
Three situations usually prompt one. A house that has been in one family since it was built is being sold or handed on, and forty years of living has to come out of the cupboards. A household that has managed on its own for years wants everything reset before a family occasion or Christmas. Or someone has just bought a Rubery semi and wants it stripped back before the furniture arrives. The last of those is the easiest to schedule, because the property is empty. Access is never the problem it is closer to town: park on the drive, work from the drive, and there is a garage to stage equipment in.
Condition, far more than bedrooms, drives a Rubery quote
Condition drives the number much harder than the number of bedrooms. A well kept three bedroom semi off New Road is a very different day from the same house after a long illness or a long absence, and quoting both from one table would tell you nothing useful. What moves it: how many bathrooms and how far the mould has travelled through the sealant, how badly the oven and the hood filter have been let go, whether the conservatory counts as a room or is stacked with garden furniture, and whether carpets are extracted at the same visit. We are happy to come and look, or to work from photographs on WhatsApp, and give you a fixed figure.
Spring and pre-Christmas resets for most B45 households
Many Rubery households are best served by two a year: once when the heating goes off in spring, once in the fortnight before Christmas. Bring the interval down where a bathroom has no working extractor, because mould in the sealant comes back faster in a room that cannot dry out. Where a house is being cleared for sale or a new owner is moving in, a single deep clean at the changeover does the job on its own and there is no case for booking a series.
Excellent job, highly recommended.

Frequently asked questions
Usually, with care. A galley run with the cooker partway along throws grease upwards, and on a textured ceiling the film sits in the peaks. We apply a degreaser with a soft brush and a light touch and never scrub. Where the coating is old and flaking, we leave it alone and tell you.
Usually a great deal of it, and sometimes all. Mould that has grown through old silicone has stained the material itself, and at that point a new bead of sealant is the real fix. We treat it, show you the result and tell you whether it is worth a sealant strip and reseal.
No. The supply is soft, so taps and shower screens here collect soap scum and body oils instead. Those want a degreaser and a bit of patience, not a scale remover, and pouring descaler at a soft water soap film simply does not work.
Yes, if you want it in and it is being used as a room. Internal glass, glazing bars, sills, frames and the floor. The roof and the outside of it belong to a different job with a soft wash and a pole, and we will quote that separately.
Five to eight hours on site for a typical three bedroom, longer where the oven has been left or a conservatory is included. Detached houses on the larger plots here run to a full day. You get the time estimate with the fixed price, not after we have started.
