Commercial Cleaning for Moseley Village Bars, Cafes and Salons

Moseley Village is where the commercial work in B13 is concentrated, along St Mary’s Row and the Alcester Road frontage. It is bars, restaurants, cafes and delis, salons and barbers, estate agents, a pharmacy, a couple of consulting rooms and a scatter of offices and studios on the upper floors. Most of these are older buildings, not purpose-built units, with a commercial ground floor and flats above, which is the fact that shapes how a contract here has to be written.

Because the Village trades late, the morning is the working window. A bar that closes at midnight and opens at noon has one clear stretch of empty building. Ours starts at 8am on weekdays and 9am on Saturdays and runs through to opening, and it has to be quiet. Choice of vacuum, what time the bins move and whether a fire door is allowed to bang are not fussy details in a building with three flats over the top of it. They are the difference between a contract that lasts and a complaint.

Sticky bar floors, wet underbar areas and flats upstairs

What a licensed premises needs cleaning is not what a shop needs. Drink goes on the floor through service and dries sticky, so a floor mopped at every close can still be tacky underfoot within a fortnight, because warm water spreads sugar without removing it. The underbar and glass wash area stay wet through every shift, which is where drip trays, bar matting and drainage channels start to smell before anything looks wrong. Cellar steps and the beer line area are the least visited surfaces in the building and behave accordingly. Outside there is a smoking area, a fire exit passage and a trade waste store that has to be acceptable to the flats above and to whoever else uses the entry. On top of that, Farmers Market Saturdays and event days on the Alcester Road put a week of footfall through the door in one morning.

  • Bars and restaurants where spilled drink dries into a floor that a warm mop at closing time only spreads about
  • Underbar and glass wash areas: drip trays, bar matting and drainage channels that never dry out between shifts
  • Cellar steps and beer line areas, the least visited surfaces in any licensed building
  • Smoking areas, fire exit passages and trade waste stores overlooked by flats and shared with neighbours
  • Residents directly above the premises, so an 8am visit has to be a quiet one to survive
  • Farmers Market Saturdays and Village event days, which deliver a week of footfall in a single morning

A quiet morning slot, with daily and periodic work kept apart

We agree the morning slot, then hold to it, because a licensed premises runs on the closing shift knowing exactly what is left for us. The scope separates the daily reset from the periodic work, which is the only way both actually get done: a daily floor and washroom routine is a different job from a periodic deep clean of the same floor, and neither substitutes for the other. Underbar items are named individually, never left to the phrase behind the bar. Waste goes out at an agreed hour, not whenever we finish, and equipment is chosen for noise, because the flats above will notice long before the licensee does.

  • A scope that separates the daily reset from the periodic deep floor clean, so neither quietly disappears into the other
  • Drip trays, bar matting and glass wash drainage named as individual items instead of being left to the closing shift
  • Trade waste moved at an agreed hour and equipment chosen for noise, because people live directly above the Village
  • Washrooms treated as a customer-facing room in a licensed premises, not as back of house

Working around Village trading hours

The Village premises along St Mary’s Row, the Alcester Road frontage and the units on Woodbridge Road and Church Road sit close together, so the van can park once for a visit. That matters because parking near the Village is difficult from mid-morning and effectively impossible on a market Saturday, so Village slots are booked first thing on a weekday, while the street is still clear. Consulting rooms and the offices above the shops can take a later slot. We are about twelve minutes out, so a slot within the week is usually possible.

Kitchen scope, floor type and periodic deep floor cleans in the B13 quote

The biggest single question is whether the kitchen is in scope, because a restaurant kitchen with a range, a canopy and floor gullies is a different contract from a front of house. After that it is floor type and area: sealed timber, quarry tile and modern vinyl all want different treatment and different intervals. Whether periodic deep floor cleans and hard floor maintenance sit inside the contract or get called off separately moves the monthly figure noticeably, and we would rather show you both than bury one. Washroom count and waste handling make up the rest, and the tasks, frequency and access arrangements are written into the specification before it begins.

Every morning for bars, with an extra visit after market Saturday

Licensed premises and restaurants generally need a visit each morning, Monday to Friday from 8am and Saturday from 9am, with the periodic deep floor clean every few months and more often through a wet winter when the Village pavement comes in on everybody’s shoes. Cafes and delis run daily before opening. Salons do well on several visits a week. Shops and estate agents manage on two or three. Consulting rooms and upper-floor offices are usually fine weekly. Around a market Saturday or an event day, an extra visit on the Monday is worth more than an extra one anywhere else in the month.

Frequently asked questions

From 8am the next morning, before you open. Our visits run Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 6pm, so a clean straight after service is not something we offer. The morning slot suits a late bar well: the building is empty and a noon opening leaves a clear run. It does mean spillage has had some hours to set, which is why the periodic deep floor clean in the scope matters as much as the daily visit. We agree the slot once and keep to it.

Not if it is done carefully, which is why it goes in the scope. The three things that generate complaints are wheeling bins across a yard at the wrong moment, a fire door left to slam, and a loud machine on a hard floor through a thin Victorian ceiling. We agree a bin time, we hold the doors, and we choose equipment accordingly. If your neighbours have already had a bad experience with a previous arrangement, tell us and we will start from the assumption that patience is short.

Because sugar does not come off in warm water with an ordinary detergent, it just gets redistributed thinly. Spilled drink builds a film that mopping at each close keeps in place, and it shows up first in the tread lanes at the bar and towards the door. The fix is a periodic deep clean of the floor with a product that dissolves sugar residue, then a daily routine that keeps it there. If your floor is sealed timber or quarry tile, the product choice matters as much as the effort.

Yes, where you want it in scope, and it is worth including because it is the part of a licensed building nobody looks at. Cellar steps get sticky, the area around the lines collects spillage and the whole space stays cool and damp. We will clean it on a periodic cycle, which is the realistic frequency for a space nobody walks through in front of a customer. Anything to do with the lines themselves stays with your cellar service.

Yes, and we schedule for it. The Village and the Alcester Road are busy from early on a market day and unloading anywhere near St Mary’s Row wastes a morning, so nearby visits move off that Saturday altogether. The more useful adjustment is on the Monday: a market Saturday leaves a floor and a washroom in the state a normal week takes several days to produce, so it is worth planning a longer slot for it.
