Sparkbrook Commercial Cleaning for Ladypool Road Kitchens and Counters

Commercial cleaning in Sparkbrook centres on the restaurant kitchens of the Balti Triangle around Ladypool Road. A restaurant kitchen running hard six or seven days a week puts a film of vaporised cooking oil onto every surface above and around the range, and it does not stay where it lands. It travels along the tiling, over the canopy and into the filters, and it hardens each time the kitchen cools. A close down never touches most of that, because it is not meant to. Its job is to make the kitchen usable for the next service.

So there are two separate services here, and running them together helps nobody. One is the regular visit: front of house floors, glass, washrooms, tables and the till area. The other is the periodic kitchen deep clean, a long block of work with the range cold, the filters out and the tiling behind the range stripped of grease. Both happen within our hours of Mon to Fri 8am to 6pm and Sat 9am to 6pm; an 8am start usually leaves the dining room ready before trading, and a deep clean is booked for a day the kitchen can be handed over. Beyond the restaurants, the ward has grocers, sweet centres, fabric shops and barbers along the Stratford Road, and social housing and maisonette blocks whose stairs and bin stores belong to a landlord.

Where the grease really sits in a Ladypool Road kitchen

The load in a commercial kitchen builds in the places nobody can see from the pass. The filters and the outside of the canopy carry a heavy deposit. Behind and under the range, the tiled wall, the grout lines and the floor to wall junction hold grease that a mop pushes around without lifting, because a back of house floor is textured for grip and that grip pattern is exactly what holds residue against a flat mop head. The canopy interior and the ductwork above it are a specialist trade, so we leave those to an extraction contractor and clean everything around them. Front of house has a different problem: a floor that has taken a full day of service and a frontage carrying a thin oily film that ordinary window cleaning smears.

  • Canopy filters and the outside of the canopy, which carry a heavy deposit and are hard to see from the pass
  • Wall and floor junctions behind the fryers, where grease runs down and collects out of sight
  • Tiled walls and grout behind the range, where grease sets hard each time the kitchen cools
  • Textured back of house floors, whose grip pattern is precisely what holds residue against a mop
  • Front of house floors, washrooms and glazing that have to be ready for the next service
  • Communal stairs, landings and bin stores in the social housing and maisonette blocks threaded through the terraced streets

A kitchen handed over, the range cold and the filters soaking

A kitchen deep clean is booked as a block of hours with the kitchen handed over, never fitted around a lunch service. The range goes off and stays off long enough to be worked on safely, filters come out and are soaked, the outside of the canopy is degreased by hand, and the tiling and the floor to wall junction behind the range are done last, because that is where everything else drains to. The canopy interior and the ductwork are not part of our work: that is a specialist extraction trade, and if your insurer asks for it, a specialist firm is the right call. We leave a dated record naming the areas covered.

  • Deep cleans booked as a daytime block with the range cold and the kitchen handed over
  • Filters removed and soaked, and the outside of the canopy degreased by hand
  • Canopy interior and ductwork left to a specialist extraction firm, and said so in writing
  • Tiling, grout and the floor to wall junction behind the range done last, since that is where the rest of the work drains
  • Front of house worked from 8am or in a gap between services, so nothing is mopped around a paying customer

More detail on the equipment and the order of work: our commercial cleaning method.

Kitchens on Ladypool Road, stairs on the blocks

The restaurant work is planned around the day each kitchen can be handed over, which on Ladypool Road varies from one premises to the next, so the deep clean date is fixed when we quote. Parking is on street only across the whole of the older grid and the rear entries are narrow, so kit comes in through the front and we bring what fits through a restaurant door. The block work runs through the maisonette and social housing stairs among the terraces, and where a provider holds several within a few streets we park once and cover them on foot. Selly Oak is about twenty minutes off, so an 8am start in B12 is straightforward.

Filters, tiling and handover time set the Sparkbrook figure

A kitchen deep clean is quoted on the number of canopies and filters, the area of tiling and floor behind the range, and how long the kitchen can be handed over for. Access is the variable that surprises people most: a range in an island suite with room to work either side is a far quicker job than the same range jammed against a wall in a cramped back kitchen, and the difference is hours. A regular front of house visit is quoted on floor area, washrooms, frontage and frequency, and it is deliberately a small recurring figure, because the arrangement only survives if an independent stops having to think about it. Communal blocks are quoted per visit against cores, flights, landings and bin areas. Deep cleans and regular visits are always quoted separately, since treating one as covering the other leaves a kitchen with neither.

Daily front of house, and a separate cycle for the kitchen deep clean

Front of house in a restaurant that trades every day wants daily attention, and a shop with a quieter door holds up on two or three visits a week. Kitchen deep cleaning runs on a completely different cycle, and the right interval depends on how hard the kitchen works and what it cooks. A range going hard six days a week with heavy frying will want the filters and the tiling far more often than a kitchen doing lighter service, and filters in particular are worth pulling out and checking between deep cleans. We set the interval after looking at your filters and the wall behind the range, which beats any number printed on a website. Communal stairs want weekly, and the bin store keeps its weekly slot whatever else is cut.

Frequently asked questions

Scope and access. A close down cleans the surfaces the kitchen uses: the pass, the tops, the floor, the sinks, so the kitchen can open again. A deep clean goes to the places a service cannot reach, with the range cold: the filters, the outside of the canopy, the tiling and grout behind the range and the floor to wall junction underneath it. A thorough close down still will not have touched those, and it is not meant to.

Yes. The canopy interior and the ductwork are a specialist extraction trade, and we do not take them on. We clean the filters, the outside of the canopy and everything around the range, and we will tell you plainly where our work stopped so the extraction firm you use knows what is left to them.

Not the extraction part of it. Insurers asking about extraction cleaning usually mean the canopy interior and the ductwork, which is specialist work we do not do. What we can give you is a dated record of the kitchen clean, the filters and the tiling behind the range. Check the policy wording with your broker, and book the extraction clean with a specialist firm.

Within our hours of Mon to Fri 8am to 6pm and Sat 9am to 6pm, on a day you can hand the kitchen over. For a kitchen that starts cooking late in the day, a start at 8am usually gives enough time; others choose the day they are closed. The range has to be cold to be taken apart safely and the filters need time to soak, so we agree the handover time and the time you need the kitchen back, and plan the work between those two points.

Because the floor is doing its job. A commercial kitchen floor is textured or studded so that people do not slip on it, and that same texture holds grease down in the low points where a flat mop head simply passes over the top. It wants a degreaser with dwell time and mechanical agitation, a deck brush or a machine, and then the residue lifted off. If the seal at the floor to wall junction has failed, grease is getting underneath it, and no amount of cleaning above will hold. That needs resealing, not another visit.

Yes. Where you hold several blocks a couple of streets apart they go onto one schedule and one invoice, quoted against the cores, flights, landings and bin areas. Each visit is dated and signed on the spot, so a housing officer has something concrete to answer a resident complaint with.
