Sheldon Window Cleaning for Bay-Fronted Semis, Off the Drive

Window cleaning in Sheldon is consistent work. The 1930s semis here share a deep bay at the front, uPVC framed with wide sills underneath, and some have a second bay at the rear. Because the plan repeats, a few photographs usually give us an accurate quote, and the job is comparable house to house, so no house is subsidising a neighbour with an awkward elevation.

The other local advantage is parking. Almost every property has its own long drive, so we set the pole and the tank up on your hardstanding, work the front and side elevations from there and never put a wheel on the Coventry Road or block a neighbour in. Reach and wash on a Sheldon semi is about as straightforward as this work gets, which is precisely why a six to eight week cycle is worth keeping here rather than an occasional big clean.

Road film and country park sap on B26 glass

Two local things dirty B26 glass faster than the housing type alone would suggest. Houses near the busier roads collect traffic film that settles between showers as well as during them, so the glass hazes over sooner than people expect. Along the country park and Old Rectory Farm boundary it is organic instead: sap, pollen and bird mess on the north and east elevations. Underneath all of it sit the uPVC frames and sills, which pick up a grey film that hosing simply spreads about. A bay multiplies every bit of this, because a bay is three or five panes and two return angles where a flat elevation is one.

  • Deep front bays, and rear bays on some houses, so pane count and edge length run well ahead of a flat-fronted property
  • Traffic film on the houses near the busier roads, settling on glass between showers
  • Sap, pollen and bird mess on elevations facing Sheldon Country Park and the Old Rectory Farm meadows
  • uPVC frames and sills carrying a grey organic film that a hosepipe moves around instead of removing
  • Traffic film on the properties fronting the Coventry Road, which is a heavier and faster load than the estate interior

Pane by pane round each bay, set up on your drive

Filtered, deionised water up a pole, worked entirely from your drive, so no ladder ever leans on a conservatory frame, a downpipe or a chalky fascia. On a bay we go pane by pane and take the return angles separately, never in one sweep across the whole opening, because the corners are where the film sits and a single pass leaves them. Frames, sills and the rubbers are brushed by the pole at the same visit, not just the glass, and there is no detergent and no squeegee on the outside. Where a chalky uPVC frame needs a proper cleaner, that goes on the quote. Pure water dries without spotting, so nothing is towelled off and there is no cloth dragged across a sill and back onto the glass.

  • Pane by pane round a bay, with the return angles worked separately instead of in one sweep across the opening
  • uPVC frames, sills and rubbers brushed by the pole every visit, since that is where the grey film actually shows
  • The whole elevation reached from your driveway, so nothing rests against the conservatory frame or the fascia line
  • Deionised water only, dried in the air, so no cloth is pulled across a dirty sill and back over clean glass

Set days and six-week cycles in B26

We cover Sheldon on scheduled days, on a six to eight week cycle, with bookings grouped road by road. Nobody needs to be at home for the outside, and we leave a note to say we have been. Summer is the heavier half of the year along the country park boundary, thanks to sap and pollen. The Coventry Road frontages are the exception to the whole pattern and sit on a much shorter interval of their own.

Front and rear bays, and why a drive helps the figure

The price follows the pane count and the frames, which in Sheldon is refreshingly easy to establish. A bay counts as the panes it has, so a house with a front and rear bay carries noticeably more glass than a flat-fronted property of the same size, and the price reflects it. What pulls in the other direction is access: your own drive means no permit, no ladder work and no time lost finding somewhere to park, and that saving is real. Keeping to a regular interval is the other lever, because at six weeks each visit is short. A fascia and soffit wash is quoted separately, once a year, since that grey film needs a proper wash rather than a rinse.

Six weeks near the airport, eight in the middle of the estate

Six to eight weeks is the standard interval here. Closer to six is worth it near the busier roads and along the country park edge, where film and sap build faster than the estate average. Eight is fine for a sheltered house in the middle of the estate with modern sealed units. The Coventry Road parades work on weekly or fortnightly frontage cleans, because a shopfront on that road looks tired within days.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, a little, and the reason is simple arithmetic. A bay is three or five panes plus two return angles, so a house with a bay front and back has appreciably more glass and edge than a flat elevation. We count what is there and tell you the figure before the first visit.

Yes, every visit. On a 1930s semi with uPVC replacements the frames and sills hold most of what you can see from the pavement, so the pole brushes them as the glass is washed. The heavier grey film on the fascias and soffits is a separate annual wash, and we will say when yours is due.

Traffic film, mostly. The front faces the road, and the fine greasy deposit from passing traffic settles between showers and is not rinsed off by them, so front glass hazes sooner than the rear. It is why we suggest six weeks, not eight, on the busier roads.

It helps but it is not essential. We set up at the edge of the hardstanding and work round a parked car quite happily. What we will not do is trail hose across the pavement on the Coventry Road, so on those properties we work from the frontage instead.

Yes, all of it from ground level, including the bay above the front door and the fascia line above that. Nothing is propped against your guttering or your conservatory roof, which on a house with a rear conservatory is not a small consideration.
