Oldbury Drive and Yard Cleaning, Block Paving to Blue Brick
This service divides by stock as sharply as everything else in the town. The 1930s semis in Brandhall and Warley were built with a drive, and most of those drives have been relaid in block paving at some point since the 1990s. So a B68 job usually means block paving with moss and weed in the joints, a path to the front door, and often a paved rear garden behind. It is straightforward work and it responds well to being done properly.
B69 is a different job altogether. The Victorian terraces at Rood End and Langley mostly have no drive at all, so what we clean there is a blue brick or concrete yard, a shared entry and a front step onto the pavement. The 1960s housing brings communal hardstanding, and the modern infill on the reclaimed chemical and foundry sites tends to have newer block or resin that needs a lighter touch than people expect. Oldbury is in Sandwell and we cover both postcodes on set days.

Road film greying whole surfaces, and green B69 entries
Growth in the joints is the ordinary half of it. The local half is that traffic film and fine road dust grey horizontal surfaces the same way they grey uPVC, so a concrete drive or a paved rear garden goes flat and dull across its whole area, with no patches of dirt to point at. People read that as the surface having aged, when it is a film that will come off. Add oil and tyre marking on the hardstanding near the B69 trade counters, and blue brick yards behind the terraces that stay damp and green because nothing dries out in a north-facing entry.
- Moss and weed growth in the joints of the block drives right across Brandhall and Warley
- Road film and dust greying a whole surface evenly, which reads as age but is not
- Blue brick yards and shared entries behind the Rood End terraces, damp and green the year round
- Front steps straight onto the pavement, where algae is a fall risk more than an appearance problem
- Oil and tyre marking on drives and forecourts near the B69 trade counters and units
Rotary on block, soft wash on blue brick and resin
We identify the surface before switching anything on, because that is where these jobs go wrong. Sound concrete and block paving on the B68 drives take rotary pressure cleaning at the right setting, joints cleared of growth, with the re-sanding conversation had before we start. Old blue brick, original 1930s path tile and anything running against render get soft washing instead: low pressure, with the chemistry doing the work and no risk of blowing out jointing or driving water into the base of a wall. Resin on the newer infill drives is cleaned gently, since pressure lifts the aggregate out of it.
- Rotary cleaning on sound block and concrete, soft washing on blue brick, old path tile and resin
- Kiln-dried sand replacement quoted separately when the joints need it, since cleaning block paving removes it
- Low pressure wherever the surface meets render, so nothing is forced into the base of the wall
- Displaced silt bagged for your garden waste, never swept into the road or heaped up by your gate

Drives in B68, yards and entries in B69
Spring is the season, once the winter growth has shown itself. In B68 the job is block drives, front paths and paved rear gardens on the semis around Warley and Brandhall, and where several neighbours on one street want theirs done, the drives fit into a single day. In B69 it is yards, entries and steps behind the terraces at Rood End and Langley, plus hardstanding and forecourt work for units on the industrial side, where the problem is more often oil than moss.
Why a shaded blue brick yard can outlast a bigger drive
Area and condition set the figure, but the surface sets the method and the method sets the time. Soft washing is not the cheap option: the solution needs dwell time and the edges are done by hand, so a shaded blue brick yard that has been green for years can take longer than a larger block drive. On the semis, re-sanding is quoted separately when the joints need it, because cleaning block paving takes the kiln-dried sand out and the blocks work loose without it. Oil that has soaked into porous concrete over years lightens considerably without disappearing, and we tell you that before you spend.
Every year or two in B68, yearly for B69 yards and steps
Every one to two years for a block drive in Brandhall or Warley, and annually if it sits in shade or under a hedge. Yards, entries and front steps in B69 are better done every year, because a north-facing entry never properly dries out and the algae there is a slip risk, not a cosmetic one. Spring is the natural slot for both, once you can see exactly what the winter has grown.
Excellent job, highly recommended.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, inevitably. The kiln-dried sand has to go back afterwards or the blocks begin to move and the joints open up. Re-sanding is quoted separately when the joints need it, and it is settled before we start, so it is not a figure that appears at the end.
Usually a long way, yes. An even grey across a whole surface is generally film rather than wear, and in this town it is the same road film that dulls the window frames. It cleans off. What will not come back is concrete that has genuinely weathered and lost its surface, and we will tell you which one you have.
Yes, plenty. On a B69 terrace that means the back yard, the shared entry, the front step and the path down the side. The step is usually the one worth doing first, because the step is where a slip actually happens.
No, not at full pressure. Old blue brick and lime jointing take high pressure badly, and once the jointing has been blown out it becomes a bricklayer’s problem rather than a cleaner’s. We soft wash those, which takes longer but leaves the yard intact.
Fresh oil, yes. Old oil that has been soaking into porous concrete for years lightens substantially without vanishing, and that expectation is set at the quote. On a trade forecourt we normally treat the stained areas separately from the general clean.
