Oldbury Trade Counter and Unit Cleaning, Doorway First

Oldbury behaves like two towns and the commercial half of it lives almost entirely in B69. The fringe running out towards junction 2 of the M5 holds trade counters, small units, transport offices and premises around Rood End and Langley Green. That is proper contract cleaning, bigger than an office and a kitchen. B68 has a commercial list too, but a suburban one: the parades at Brandhall and Warley, a surgery, a nursery, a branch office, and it is quoted on different terms.

What makes the B69 work distinctive is what arrives on the soles of everybody who walks through the door. Grit and traffic film from the busy roads and the yards do not stay outside. It comes in on boots, it goes into the matting, and whatever the matting cannot hold gets carried down the floor. Any cleaning schedule here that is set from the square metres rather than from the doorway is going to fail, and it will fail at the front of the building where every visitor sees it.

Why an Oldbury trade counter fails at the entrance first

Barrier matting is the part most sites under buy and it is the cheapest thing on the list. A short mat at a busy trade counter is decorative, not functional, because it takes the first step or two and the rest of the grit travels. Once it is past the mat it grinds into the floor along the line between the door, the counter and the racking, and that lane dulls while the floor either side of it still looks fine. A mop pushes it along the lane without lifting it out. The counter itself has its own problem, which is internal glazing and screens going flat and grey from the same traffic film that dulls the frames outside. Then there is the washroom, taking staff and drivers on a hard supply.

  • Barrier matting sized for appearance and too short for the boots actually crossing it, so grit gets past it every time
  • Hard floors dulling along a single traffic lane between door, counter and racking, which a mop redistributes without removing
  • Internal counter glazing and screens going flat and grey from the same traffic film that dulls the frames outside
  • Goods in doors standing open through the working day, so airborne material lands inside the building as well as on it
  • Washrooms shared by staff and delivery drivers, with scale forming on a supply harder than the soft supply Birmingham enjoys

Setting the clean from the door inwards

Frequency here is set from the entrance inwards. Matting and the first stretch of floor get attention on every single visit, deeper machine work on the lanes runs on an agreed cycle, and washrooms are done to the headcount coming through the door, whatever habit somebody inherited. Counters and units are cleaned from an 8am start before opening, since a mop bucket between a customer and the parts desk helps nobody. On sites with an induction we complete it as a contractor and wear what your site rules require, and the insurance certificate and method statement are sent in writing.

  • Matting and the first metres of floor cleaned every visit, with machine work on the traffic lanes on a named cycle
  • A detergent step on counter screens and internal glazing, because the film here does not release with water alone
  • Site induction completed and site PPE rules followed, the same as any other contractor entering the premises
  • Trade counters and units worked from an 8am start before opening, using a key and alarm code you give us

More detail on the equipment and the order of work: the full commercial cleaning process.

The B69 fringe and the B68 parades

The contract work sits between Langley Green and the motorway, on the approaches feeding junction 2, and on the reclaimed industrial ground. Those sites want an early start before goods in opens, with the gate arrangement agreed in advance and not worked out at the barrier. The B68 side is a different pattern: parades at Brandhall and Warley, a surgery, a nursery, a branch office, mostly short early visits before opening. Oldbury runs on scheduled days about twenty-five minutes from B29, so a slot is worth booking ahead.

Machine work, washrooms and access windows in a B69 quote

Floor area is the starting point and then three things move it. How much of the floor needs machine attention as well as mopping. How many separate washrooms there are and who uses them. And how tight the access window is, because a short gap between unlocking and goods in opening fixes the shape of the visit. We will also tell you where the money is not working. Spending visit time on a storage bay at a site like this achieves very little, while the same time at the doorway and the washroom changes how the whole premises reads. Consumables can be carried and invoiced at cost or left with your existing supplier.

Weekly on the set day, with the entrance worked hardest

Oldbury runs on a scheduled day, so visits are weekly or fortnightly on it, and daily contracts are not offered at this distance. Trade counters and units with real footfall do best on weekly, with the entrance end and the washroom taking the first and largest share of each visit. Quieter premises with a small office attached often sit well on fortnightly. Washrooms taking drivers as well as staff are the part to keep weekly whatever else changes, with your own staff wiping taps and seats between. Machine work on hard floors sits on a monthly or quarterly cycle depending on the traffic, and it should be a named line in the scope, not something hoped for.

Frequently asked questions

Probably not on its own, and it is fairer to say so at the quote than after. Grit around Rood End and Langley Green arrives on footwear all day, so the matting and the first stretch of floor load up regardless of what the rest of the unit is doing. Longer barrier matting and a quick sweep at the door by your own staff between visits hold it far better, and the weekly visit then puts its time where it shows.

Possibly not much, and it is worth checking before adding anything else to the contract. A mat that only takes a step or two lets most of the grit past, and everything past the mat ends up in the traffic lane on your floor. Longer barrier matting at the door is the cheapest improvement available to a site like yours, and it reduces the cleaning the floor then needs.

Yes for the office, welfare rooms, counter area and walkways. A production floor with machinery on it is a different matter and we will not clean around running plant or anything guarded. If the workshop floor needs doing, it happens when the machines are off and it goes in the scope as its own item with the access arrangement written down, instead of being assumed inside a routine visit.

Because two things are sitting on the sanitaryware and only one is being removed. This is a hard water area, so scale forms on taps, spouts and urinal parts, and soap film settles on top of it. Wiping takes the film off and leaves the scale, which is what makes the surface look permanently tired. Both layers need separate treatment, which is a method question rather than a frequency one.

Differently, because it is a different sort of list. Brandhall and Warley have parades, a surgery, a nursery and small branch premises, and those are short early visits before opening, sized nothing like contract work for a unit. Selling a B68 parade shop the package that suits a B69 trade counter would make no sense, so we quote it separately.
