Window Cleaning for Great Barr Semis, Bays and Conservatories
The suburb makes window cleaning straightforward. A 1930s semi gives you a wide front bay, casements above at a comfortable pole height under the hipped roof, and a rear conservatory with its own run of glazing. There is a drive to set up on and no hose dragged across a neighbour’s garden.
From street to street the house stays the same and the traffic changes. The M6 at Junction 7 and the A34 through the Scott Arms throw a fine oily film onto glass and white uPVC frames, and it builds noticeably faster on that side of the suburb than on the crescents near Red House Park and Great Barr Hall. Intervals follow that gradient, because one interval does not fit the whole of B43.

M6 and A34 traffic film on glass and white uPVC
Traffic film is a different substance from ordinary weather dirt. It is fine and oily and it clings, so it grips white uPVC frames and rubber seals every bit as much as the glass, and rain smears it around. Near the junction that is a four to six week problem. Out towards Red House Park you are back to normal pollen, dust and rain marking. The bay adds to the job on every house here, because a three or five-light bay carries far more frame, sill and reveal than one flat opening, and the conservatory adds a whole extra elevation of glazing that is easy to leave out.
- Fine oily traffic film off the M6 corridor and the A34, heaviest on the Scott Arms side of the suburb
- White uPVC frames and seals, which hold that film and show it long before the glass does
- Three and five-light front bays, carrying much more frame, sill and reveal than a single flat window
- Rear conservatory glazing, an entire extra elevation that is easy to leave out
- Pebbledash and render below the sills, which a ladder foot marks and a ladder top scuffs
Water-fed pole from the drive, bays worked light by light
Everything is reached from the ground with a water-fed pole running filtered, deionised water, so nothing leans against pebbledash, render or a conservatory frame. Bays are worked light by light, with the pole brushing the frames, sills and reveals as part of the price, never an upgrade. Pure water dries without spotting, so no cloth ever touches the glass. On conservatory side glazing we drop the pressure right down, because the seals on a thirty-year-old frame are not what they were and forcing water past them is how a clean turns into a leak.
- Ground-based pole throughout, with nothing resting on pebbledash, render or a conservatory frame
- Bays cleaned light by light, with frames, sills and reveals included in the price
- Reduced pressure over ageing conservatory seals and glazing bars
- Intervals set by exposure, shorter on the A34 and Scott Arms side than out towards Red House Park
More detail on the equipment and the order of work: how we do window cleaning, step by step.
Two intervals, one suburb
Great Barr bookings are grouped on scheduled days, with the interval set by exposure and not by council. Houses within reach of the Scott Arms junction, fronting the A34 or near the M6 approach go on a four to six week cycle. The quieter roads towards Red House Park, Great Barr Hall and the Hamstead side sit comfortably at eight. B42, B43 and B44 are one area to us, so a Sandwell address and a Walsall address get the same day and the same rate. Nobody needs to be in, and we leave a note to say we have been.
Openings counted, with the conservatory glazing in or out
Two things set the price: how many openings there are, and whether the conservatory glazing is in. A standard bay-fronted semi is a known quantity, which is why we can usually price it over the phone from the address once you tell us what is on the back. Frequency does the rest. On a four-weekly booking near the junction each visit is short, because a month of traffic film comes off easily. Leave the same house a year and it becomes a restoration job, priced accordingly. One-off cleans are always available and always cost more per visit than a regular booking.
Four to six weeks near the Scott Arms, eight by Red House Park
Four to six weeks for anything within earshot of the Scott Arms or fronting the A34, where the traffic film is relentless. Eight weeks is fine on the quieter roads towards Red House Park, Great Barr Hall and Hamstead. Conservatory side glazing can sit on the same interval as the house, though the roof panels above it are separate soft-wash work on a yearly or twice-yearly cycle, separate from the window visit.

Frequently asked questions
Because of where the road sits. The A34 and the M6 approach at Junction 7 put a fine oily film on glass and frames that builds far quicker than ordinary dirt. A house near the Scott Arms genuinely needs doing every four to six weeks. The same house out by Red House Park is fine at eight, and we would not sell you the shorter interval if you did not need it.
Yes, every visit and at no extra cost. On white uPVC the frames and sills hold most of the visible grime, especially where traffic film is involved, so cleaning only the glass leaves the front of the house looking half finished from the pavement.
From the ground with a water-fed pole, which reaches up to three storeys and is comfortable on a two-storey hipped-roof semi. Ladder feet mark render and pebbledash and those marks do not simply wash off, and a ladder top against plastic guttering or a conservatory frame does its own damage.
Yes. The side glazing goes with the house windows. The roof panels are different work, needing a soft-wash solution and dwell time rather than a pole pass, so we quote those separately and usually once or twice a year.
