Sparkbrook Carpet Cleaning for Terrace Stairs and Dining Rooms
The household job here is nearly always those same three areas. A nineteenth-century terrace has one way through it, from the front door past the staircase to the back room, and that route absorbs every journey anybody in the house makes. Rooms either side look almost new while the hall and treads have gone grey and flat. So it is best booked as a combination, not by the room, since doing the lounge and skipping the stairs spends money on the part nobody was looking at.
The commercial job is more particular and it belongs to this ward specifically. A good number of the dining rooms around the Balti Triangle are carpeted, and restaurant carpet does not merely collect footfall. Fine cooking oil drifts out from the kitchen and settles into the pile, leaving the fibre tacky, and tacky fibre grabs everything walked in off Ladypool Road. Add dropped sauce and chairs dragged twice a night and it wants a degreasing approach rather than a general one.

Pavement grit on terrace stairs, cooking oil in dining room pile
Soiling here arrives in two forms wanting different chemistry. Household pile on a terraced staircase is mostly dry grit tracked in from a busy pavement and driven down into the base of the fibre by constant traffic on a narrow tread. Restaurant pile is the reverse: an oily binder holding everything in place, which is why a dining room re-soils within weeks of a weak clean. Turmeric and chilli oil leave dye stains, not soiling, and that is explained before any work starts. Both come out better once the dry soil has gone first.
- Hall, stairs and landing in small terraces, taking an entire household through one narrow route
- Restaurant dining rooms where oil drifting from the kitchen leaves the pile tacky and quick to re-soil
- Turmeric and chilli oil marks, which are dye, not dirt, and behave nothing like ordinary spillage
- Budget contract carpet fitted at relet, which marks readily and reaches the end of its life quickly
- Landlords and agencies wanting a dated receipt where an agreement specifies professional cleaning
Dry soil out first, then the right pre-spray for a home or a restaurant
Dry soil is removed first on a slow suction pass, and on a terraced staircase that accounts for most of the work, because pavement grit turns to mud the instant water reaches it. Household pile then takes a pre-spray left to dwell properly. Restaurant pile takes a degreasing pre-spray instead, since the binder gripping the soil is oil and a general product will not release it. A hand tool does the flights, these staircases being steep and turning at the top. Dining rooms are done in the morning, well before the restaurant opens, so the room is dry and ready for service.
- A slow suction pass ahead of any moisture, since grit in a terraced hall becomes mud in the pile if wetted
- A degreasing pre-spray on restaurant carpet, because an oily binder is what makes a dining room re-soil so fast
- A hand tool on the flights, a terraced staircase being far too steep and tight for a wand to be hauled up
- Air pushed through the house from front to back, or the dining room left with the doors open for the afternoon, so nothing is walked on damp
More detail on the equipment and the order of work: carpet cleaning across Birmingham.
Terraced stairs, and dining room floors before service
Household work sits across the terraced streets running off the Stratford Road, around Christ Church and out towards Farm Park, and it often makes sense alongside a turnaround so a property gets opened up only once. The restaurant work is on Ladypool Road and starts at 8am while the dining room is empty and the doors can stand wide, so the restaurant has a dry floor well before evening trade. Twenty minutes from Selly Oak B29 makes an early start easy. Drying usually takes a few hours; allow most of a day in cold, damp weather, which is worth knowing when you book.
Priced per room and per flight, and by the oil worked into the pile
Pricing works per room and per flight of stairs, with a floor under it, since unloading, filling, feeding a hose through a front door and packing down again takes the same time for one carpet as for four. That is why hall, stairs and landing taken together represents much better value than any of them alone. Dining rooms are priced on floor area and on how much oil has gone into the pile, a heavily loaded first clean needing two passes. Optimism is the one thing we will not sell: crushed nosings, bleached patches and set dye marks are permanent.
A yearly hall and stairs, two or three visits for a dining room
A family terrace does well having the hall, stairs and landing done annually, with the rooms either side stretching considerably further. A carpeted dining room in a working restaurant realistically wants two or three visits a year, because the oil load never stops arriving. Relet properties are cleaned at handover, which on a short tenancy can come round twice inside a year. On a newly fitted relet carpet, a hard vacuum of the hall and stairs every week is what protects it between cleans.
The carpets looks clean and beautiful, very professional and polite. I would recommend this company

Frequently asked questions
Partly, usually, and sometimes in full. Turmeric is a dye, not a soil, so it bonds into the fibre instead of resting on top of it. It usually lightens a long way under treatment and then keeps fading in daylight over the weeks that follow. Chilli oil tends to respond better, because the carrier is oil and oil is something we can release.
Yes, where the restaurant opens in the evening or has a closed day. Visits run within Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 6pm, so we start at 8am, extract the dining room and leave air moving, and the floor is dry before the doors open. It also cleans better with tables out of the way than it ever could with them shuffled into a corner while you are trying to trade.
Clean them if they have only gone grey, and replace them if the pile is crushed. Carpet which has merely gone grey generally recovers much further than owners expect. Carpet with the pile crushed flat where shoes land on every tread is worn, not dirty, and no process brings that back. We take a look before quoting and tell you which one you have, and on budget contract carpet in a busy house it is often the latter.
You can, though the minimum charge means it will not save much against doing the hall and landing at the same time. In a terrace those three surfaces run into each other anyway, and cleaning the flight while leaving the hall it opens onto usually makes the hall look worse by comparison.
Light items yes: dining chairs, a coffee table, a bin. Wardrobes, beds and loaded units stay exactly where they stand, because dragging them scores flooring and can wreck flat-pack that is only just holding together. An emptied room comes up far better than a full one, and a restaurant with its chairs already stacked is quicker for us and therefore cheaper for you.
