Olton Driveway Cleaning for In-and-Out Drives and Tiled Paths
Olton suits this service well. Plots on the older roads are wide, the driveways run in one gate and out the other, and there is usually a detached garage with an apron in front of it. That gives us a large surface to clean and, just as usefully, room to work: the van sits on the property, the hoses reach without crossing a pavement, and nobody has to obstruct the road to get a rotary machine down the side of the house.
It also means these are not quick add-on jobs. An in-and-out drive with a turning area and a garage apron is several times the area of a standard semi’s parking space, so we price it as its own piece of work. The semis between the Warwick Road and the railway are the more familiar version: block paving or concrete, one car width, and moss growing in the joints.

Green where the trees reach, clean where the sun does
Shade is what does it here. The heavy canopy along the older roads keeps large sections of drive damp for most of the year, so the same driveway comes up green where the trees reach and stays reasonably clean where the sun does, which is why an Olton drive so often looks patchy, green in one half and clean in the other. Leaf lying on block paving through autumn then adds tannin staining on top of the algae. The frontages are the other half of it: a good many villas still have an original tiled or brick path to the front door, and on the conservation roads that path is part of what the designation exists to protect.
- Large in-and-out drives with a turning area and garage apron, greening unevenly under the tree canopy
- Leaf lying on block paving through autumn, leaving tannin staining over the top of the algae
- Original tiled and brick paths to villa front doors, which high pressure lifts
- Conservation frontages on St Bernard’s Road, Grange Road and Kineton Green Road, where the method has to stay gentle
- Moss and weed in the joints of the block drives on the semis nearer the railway
Three surfaces on one frontage, each identified first
We identify the surface before anything is switched on, because an Olton frontage often has three of them in a row: block drive, a concrete garage apron, and an original tiled path to the door. Sound block paving and concrete get rotary cleaning at the pressure they can take, worked in overlapping passes so a drive that size does not finish up striped. Original tile, brick, and anything running against render or painted timber gets soft-washed, which kills the algae chemically. Joints are cleared of moss and weed, and re-sanding is quoted separately when the joints need it.
- Rotary cleaning in overlapping passes on the big drives, so a large area does not end up striped
- Soft-wash only on original tiled and brick paths, and anywhere on the conservation roads
- Moss and weed taken out of the joints, with re-sanding quoted separately where the joints need it
- Displaced silt swept up and bagged for your bin, never left heaped by the gate

Drives, aprons and villa frontages
Most of this work is on the older roads, where the drive is usually the first thing a household notices needing attention. Spring is the season, once the winter growth has shown itself properly. Garage aprons and side accesses are worth including, since they sit behind the gate and get skipped for years.
Shade and drive size in a B92 driveway quote
Area and condition set it, and Olton drives are large, so a villa drive is a half day or more of work. What moves the price beyond area is how much of the surface sits in permanent shade, since those sections often need a chemical treatment as well as the machine, and whether an original path is involved, because soft-washing is slower than pressure cleaning. On block paving the kiln-dried sand comes out of the joints during cleaning, and re-sanding is quoted separately when the joints need it. Quoting the drive with the gutters or the windows saves a second visit.
Yearly for the shaded stretches, less for open block paving
Annually for the shaded stretches of an in-and-out drive and for any path or step under the tree cover, because in that much shade the algae is back within the year, and on a path it becomes a slip risk. Every two years is usually fine for the open, sunlit half of a drive and for the block paving on the semis near the railway. Spring is the natural slot for both, once the winter growth has properly declared itself.

Frequently asked questions
By area and by surface, and on the wider Olton plots that makes it a substantial job in its own right. A drive with a turning area and a garage apron can be several times the area of a standard semi’s parking space, so we measure it instead of guessing.
Because the tree cover only shades part of it. The sections under the canopy stay damp all year and grow algae, while the open stretch dries out and stays reasonably clean. We treat the shaded parts harder, and those are the parts that come back first if you leave it longer than a year.
No. High pressure lifts original path tile and blows out the lime jointing, and on a conservation frontage that is not a mistake you can undo. Those get soft-washed, and we tell you at the quote which part of your frontage gets which method.
Usually, yes, on block paving. Cleaning takes the kiln-dried sand out of the joints and the blocks work loose without it, so re-sanding is quoted separately when the joints need it, and it is on the quote from the start.
Yes, usually most of it, and often all of it where the spill is recent. Oil that has been soaking into a porous concrete apron in front of a detached garage for years will lighten considerably without vanishing, and we will say which of the two you have at the quote.
