Longbridge Home Cleaning, From Town Centre Flats to Austin-Era Semis
Longbridge puts brand-new homes and some very conventional ones within a few hundred metres of each other. The apartments and townhouses built across the former MG Rover site are compact, open-plan and hard-floored, with a lot of glass and small gardens or balconies. The interwar and post-war semis behind them, put up for the Austin and Rover workforce, are the opposite: separate rooms, a stair, a back door onto a real garden and in many cases a rear conservatory that has quietly become another room.
Where building work is still going on nearby, it shows indoors more than people expect. Fine dust travels in through trickle vents and open windows and settles on worktops, glass balustrades, the tops of gloss units and every dark surface in a flat, so a small modern apartment can look neglected within days of being cleaned. At twenty minutes down the A38, a first visit within the week is usually possible, and a regular clean then stays on the same weekday each time.

Site dust in the flats, back-door traffic in the semis
A flat and a semi on the same postcode need the visit weighted in opposite directions. In an open-plan apartment the kitchen sits in the living room, so cooking residue lands on the sofa and the blinds rather than staying behind a door, and the whole space reads as dirty when only the hob is. There is no garden bringing soil in, but there is dust, and hard flooring throughout shows it immediately. In the older houses the load comes through the back door instead, along a hall and up a stair, and the rooms that need the hours are the kitchen and whichever reception the household actually lives in, which is seldom the one kept for visitors.
- Building dust settling on worktops, gloss units and balcony glass inside the newer flats, faster than the size of the property suggests
- Open-plan apartment living, where cooking residue reaches soft furnishings instead of staying in a separate kitchen
- Hard flooring throughout the new-build homes, which shows every mark and wants doing every visit
- Austin-era semis with a knocked-through reception, a stair and a rear conservatory nobody counts as a room until it needs doing
- Balcony doors and glass balustrades that become part of the living space all summer and are almost always left off a cleaning list
- Households working shifts or commuting from Longbridge station who would rather hand over access than wait in
Fobs, visitor bays and a scope that names the balcony
The scope is agreed room by room before the first visit, and in a flat that conversation is mostly about the balcony, the utility cupboard and whether the internal glass comes in every time. In a house it is about the conservatory and which reception room earns the hours. After that the day stays the same. In the apartments we need a fob or a door code and the number of the visitor bay, because turning up without either means standing in a lobby while the clock runs.
- A written scope naming the balcony, the conservatory and the internal glass as in or out on purpose
- Fob or entry-code access for the apartments, arranged before the first visit, not on the morning
- Time weighted to the open-plan kitchen and living space in a flat, and to the kitchen, hall and stairs in a house
- Short frequent visits offered on the apartments, because an hour done often beats three hours once a month on a compact flat
- The same weekday each time, so a fixed slot survives a busy week in town
More detail on the equipment and the order of work: domestic cleaning across Birmingham.
Homes on both sides of the old plant
The apartment work sits around the town centre, the station and Austin Park, and it is short and frequent by nature, since a compact flat takes little time and gathers dust quickly. The house work runs on the older streets off Longbridge Lane, Groveley Lane and out towards Tessall Lane and the B45 edge, where there is a driveway to park on and nothing has to be carried far. Parking is the practical difference between the two. On the developments the courts are permit-controlled and tight, so we agree a bay in advance, and the equipment comes inside with us so nobody is blocked in.
Why a Longbridge flat is quicker than its bedroom count
Visits are priced on the real time a property takes and held steady, so it stops being something you have to think about. In Longbridge the surprise usually runs the other way to what people expect. A two-bedroom apartment is quicker than its bedroom count implies, because there is one bathroom, no stairs and no garden, so a shorter visit more often is genuinely good value. An Austin-era semi with the same two bedrooms, a knocked-through reception, a rear extension and a conservatory in daily use is a materially longer job. Balconies, internal glass and ironing are all quoted on top rather than assumed.
Weekly for the flats while the dust returns quickly
Weekly suits the flats better than most people assume, because the dust here returns quickly and a small property takes little time to put right. Fortnightly is the common choice on the older houses and covers most family households. Monthly is reasonable for a flat that stands empty all day with one occupant, though on the developments nearest active works you may find four weeks is longer than the surfaces will carry. Nothing sits on a minimum term, so the frequency can move as the building work does.
Excellent job, highly recommended.

Frequently asked questions
Where building work is going on near the old Rover site, it puts fine dust into the air, and it comes indoors through trickle vents and open windows. On pale worktops, gloss cupboard doors and balcony glass it shows within days. It is not a sign the last clean was poor, and it is the main reason a shorter weekly visit tends to work better here than a long fortnightly one.
This service is inside your own home: rooms, kitchen, bathroom, floors and internal glass. Shared entrances, stairwells and bin stores are a separate arrangement made with the managing agent or the residents company, not something an individual leaseholder books for their own flat.
If you give us a fob or door code, you need not be in, so nobody has to buzz us up. Tell us the visitor bay as well. Parking courts on these developments are tight and permit-controlled, and a cleaning van left in the wrong space causes more trouble than it saves.
Only if we agree it at the outset, and we always raise it. Inside, that means the floor, the glass, the frames and the sills, which takes real time if the room is in daily use and very little if it holds garden furniture. The roof and the outside are a separate soft-wash job with different equipment.
Yes. That is the practical reason for booking a standing slot instead of one-off visits: the day holds, and the notes on your home build up, recording where the fob lives, which balcony door sticks and which room earns the hours. If a visit ever has to move, you are told beforehand, never on the day.
